It was founded in 1995 and debuted in September 1997. Since then\, tens of thousands of film lovers have experienced a diverse selection of North American-Asian and international films\, in English and in other languages. \nVancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) is dedicated to promoting and celebrating the diversity and depth of Asian culture and identity in film and media\, and to help North American Asian actors and filmmakers more authentically and more powerfully define and express themselves on screen. \nEach year VAFF attracts close to 5\,000 audience members over its four-day festival and year-round events. It also reaches many more through word of mouth\, pre-festival events\, and traditional and social media throughout the year. \nThrough its annual film festival and many other programs and events hosted in Vancouver\, VAFF’s mission is to be the “go-to” forum for the public and the film industry to engage in and support the rise of Asian influence in film and media in the world. DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE CMPA INDIESCREEN AWARDS\nCelebrating Excellence in Canadian Feature Film Production \nEstablished in 2006\, the CMPA Indiescreen Awards recognize producers whose vision and entrepreneurship demonstrate a commitment to and passion for producing Canadian feature films. Two awards are handed out every year: the Established Producer Award and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award. \nPast recipients include Damon D’Oliveira (2022\, Brother)\, Anand Ramayya (2021\, Donkeyhead)\, Jennifer Holness (2020\, Stateless)\, Simone Urdl and Jennifer Weiss (2018\, Falls Around Her)\, Roger Frappier (2016\, Two Lovers and a Bear)\, Robert Lantos (2015\, Remember)\, Nancy Grant (2014\, Mommy) and Kevin Tierney (2009\, The Trotsky). \nThe Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award was added to the Indiescreen Awards program in 2016 to highlight the extraordinary talents of up-and-coming producers with a bright career ahead. \nWinners of both awards are chosen by two separate juries out of the independent Canadian films that premiered or are slated to premiere theatrically\, at a film festival or on an online streaming service that year. \nTwo awards are handed out every year: \n\nThe Established Producer Award celebrates a producer’s filmmaking accomplishments over the course of their career to date\, and includes a $20\,000 prize.\nThe Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award recognizes the impressive potential of an up-and-coming producer\, and includes a $10\,000 prize.\n\nFive nominees will be selected in each category by juries consisting of five industry leaders\, and chaired by the previous year’s Indiescreen Award winners. \nNominated producers are encouraged to attend the awards\, in-person in Halifax\, Nova Scotia on Thursday\, September 12\, 2024.
