Manitoba Film and Music

Manitoba Film & Music offers a series of programs aimed at the development, production and marketing of projects shot in Manitoba.

  • Feature Film Development Fund
    This program will assist eligible applicants with the development of viable motion picture concepts into screenplays for theatrical release. Movies for television are not eligible. Find out more info here.
  • Feature Film Production Fund
    This program assists in the production financing of fully developed feature film projects through equity investments.  Movies of the Week are not eligible. There is no set deadlines for this program, applications can be sent in throughout the year. Find out more info here.
  • Grant Program for Emerging Talent and Micro-Budget Production
    This program is designed to support two streams of micro-budget productions: entry-level filmmakers who have received production funding awards through a competitive, juried process from a recognized industry organization; and producers of factual or scripted programming for projects with micro-budgets that do not exceed $100,000 and who have received a cash license or a distribution advance from a third-party distributor. Find out more info here.
  • Television and Web-Based Development Fund
    This program provides funds in the form of recoupable loans to support the development of television and web-based projects that have already secured third party financing, which represents an acceptable market trigger for broadcast or distribution. Find out more info here.
  • Television and Web-Based Production Fund
    This program is designed to support the production of television and web-based projects that have an acceptable market trigger for broadcast or distribution and sufficient third party financing to complete the project.  Find out more info here.

Manitoba Film and Video Production Tax Credit

Manitoba has the most competitive tax credit in Canada!

Receive up to 65% with the Cost-of-Salaries Tax Credit (including bonuses) OR up to 38% on all eligible Manitoba expenditures with the Cost-of-Production Tax Credit (including bonus).

The Winnipeg Film Group is an artist-run education, production, exhibition and distribution centre committed to promoting the art of cinema and collaborates with Manitoba Film and Music on several funding opportunities.

  • Individual Artist Grant Program for Winnipeg Artists
    The Individual Artist Grant Program is intended to support the creation of new work in any art form, or the development, production, curation, or exhibition of works of art by Winnipeg artists. Find out more info here.
  • Professional Research & Development Grant
    The Professional Research & Development grant program is intended to provide partial support to artists, arts administrators, or arts educators for activities that contribute to their professional development and enhance their careers in the arts. Such activities may include unique opportunities for short-term study (beyond basic training) in a formal or informal setting, mentorships, or master classes.

Winnipeg Film Group

The Winnipeg Film Group is an artist-run education, production, exhibition and distribution centre committed to promoting the art of cinema and collaborates with Manitoba Film and Music on several funding opportunities.

  • Manitoba Film Hothouse Award for Creative Development
    The Manitoba Film Hothouse Award is designed to support an established Manitoba filmmaker to develop their career by providing them with funding for self-directed development work. There is one award annually. This award includes $10,000 in cash, $5,000 in Winnipeg Film Group (WFG) services, $2,500 in William F. White in-kind services and a WFG General Membership and WFG Production Add-On.   • Mosaic Film Fund
    The MOSAIC Film Fund is a special production support and film mentorship program to assist a woman, femme or non-binary identified person of Indigenous or diverse cultural backgrounds to produce a first or second independent short film or video. Find out more info here.
  • The MFM First Film Fund
    The MFM FIRST FILM FUND is an all-inclusive fund, which provides cash, services and mentorship towards the creation of a small film or video project. This fund supports work in narrative, experimental and documentary, or hybrid/cross-genre work. Find out more info here.
  • The MFM Production Fund
    The semi-annual MFM PRODUCTION FUND is designed to assist Winnipeg Film Group members in the development of their artistic careers by providing support towards the production of film projects in the form of cash and services awards. This fund is primarily geared to POST-production. PRODUCTION applications are welcome, but the funds for production are extremely limited. Find out more info here.
